Interiors.

My father an interior designer, I can't help but be drawn in by beautiful furnishings.

A mix of black and ecru with carefully placed sculpture and loads of books.

French chateau meets winter lodge. With a freestanding tub. Love.

Clean and minimalist, yet remains warm.

Exposed brick, dark cherry floors, leather shag rug. Texture galore.

The colors, the low hanging chandelier--just the epitome of chic.

and i feel right at home, in this stunning monochrome...

Every year, something about the impending winter makes me crave luxe, textural contrast. Here, some beautiful grey items I need in my life, right now.

OMFGG.

the gossip.

it feels alright / but never complete
without you

i trust you
if it's already been done / undo it
it takes two
it's up to me and you / to prove it
on the rainy nights / even the coldest days
you're moments ago / but seconds away
the principle of nature it's true but
it's a cruel world

Second week.

Big assignments this week. Big as in time consuming. And so fun. The first was to look through the collections from fashion schools around the world and get a feel for what the trends were in each area. Those European schools blow us out of the water. Royal Academy of Fine Arts (located in Antwerp) was especially impressive. Once I tackled the schools and did a little write up on each, the next day I was given the nearly-overwhelming task of Resort Wear 2010.

The focus for Resort was on key items and after looking at nearly 3,000 images, I compiled a list of trends that popped up repeatedly. Cropped pants, cuffed pants, peg leg pants, wide leg pants, draped pants, harem pants, patterned leggings, jumpsuits/rompers, hot pants...and those are just the pants. There are also multiple categories for dresses, tops, skirts, coats, bathing suits, cover-ups, bags, jewelry, head wear, eye wear, shoes, accessories, prints, fabrics, details, and overall theme.

Color was another category all together: reds ranged from burgundy to candy apple, oranges and yellows were more muted, coral, hot pink, and magenta all made an appearance. On the cooler end of the spectrum, cobalt and electric blue are huge, as are purple and navy. Neutrals were classic black and white, sophisticated gray, and many shades of taupe, nude, and peach.

After I finally got through those images and had written it up, Couture was next. Couture is much more about attention to detail, silhouette, and design direction or theme. For couture, I believe images speak louder than words.

I die.

First day on the job.

My first day at my internship started out slowly as I had to wait for the tech guy to hook me up to the network and get me a password. I also got to listen to him trash my Macbook for 1) not having a password [I just got a new hard drive] and 2) not having Leopard [I'm terrified of change!] and 3) Needing too many updates [again, scared of change and I don't *like* iTunes and Skitch updates].

My first assignment, once I got the hang of the website, was to go through a ton of questions from the last website seminar, organize them, and answer them as best I could. The questions were about the upcoming colors and prints for F/W 09 and S/S 10, as well as how to incorporate trends into the mass market. There were also questions about texture, fabrication, and silhouette.

Some answers:
*This fall, yellow is continuing on as an important color, but taking a more muted stance. Think mustard and ochre rather than bright canary or buttercup pastels
*Also, tough, edgy style is not backing off--expect to see shades of gray as well as more black on black; depression-chic is waning, so these dark colors may be paired with brighter, more energetic colors
*For spring, washed out neutrals; contemporary and zen shades of white
*Intense--not neon, but saturated botanical colors--will be big for spring as well
*For any season, a good way to bring trends into the mainstream is to use them in moderation and with accessories: try pairing a trendy colored cardigan with basic work clothes for a fresh look; a bright, over-sized bag will bring your look to the next level; shoes can also lend a great pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit
*No longer a cyclical fad, animal print has become a classic in the recent years; this fall the skins will take on a more 80s look than before--this is a good place to pair prints with neutrals

I was pretty excited that I got to dive right in on my first day. And the website? Wow. Blew me away.
